Impedance Control

Impedance Control is a robot motion control strategy that regulates the dynamic relationship between an end-effector’s motion and the forces exchanged with its environment by enforcing a desired mechanical impedance—typically modeled as a mass–spring–damper system—rather than directly controlling position or force alone.
