Nonlinear Attitude Estimation

Nonlinear Attitude Estimation is a methodological framework within attitude determination that estimates the orientation of a rigid body in three-dimensional space using nonlinear geometric representations—such as rotation matrices or quaternions—to explicitly account for the nonlinear structure of the special orthogonal group SO(3), thereby distinguishing it from linearized or small-angle approximation approaches.
