Abstract

This deliverable begins with a discussion of one level at which the process of searching for learning objects in a SeLeNe can be personalised. This involves the speciflcation of the semantics of a SeLeNe User Proflle, which takes some elements from existing learner proflle schemes and adds extra custom elements where existing schemes fail to provide the expressiveness necessary for efiective personalisation. We suggest structured vocabularies for the speciflcation of learning goals and learning styles, which together enable learners to express their educational needs within their proflle. We then go on to consider how the SeLeNe User Proflle could be applied to inform the search process in two possible search scenarios, and flnally we discuss SeLeNe’s support for trails of learning objects, and how in combination with the user proflle these can support learners and other users of the system.
