Abstract

This study was designed to provide evidence concerning the relationship between measures of the domains of interests and values. Scores obtained from a work-values instrument (the Career Orientation Placement and Evaluation Survey) and an occupational activity interest instrument (the California Occupational Preference System) were intercorrelated based on a sample of 197 college students. The low magnitude of correlations is consistent with previous research and supports the view that these should be considered as separate domains. Relationships between the domains are discussed in terms of the psychological meaningfulness of correlations obtained and the usefulness of maintaining the conceptual and measurement distinction between the domains.
