Least Restrictive Environment

Least Restrictive Environment is a legal and educational principle in special education that mandates, to the maximum extent appropriate, that students with disabilities be educated with peers without disabilities and only be removed from the general education setting when the nature or severity of the disability necessitates supplementary aids and services for effective learning.
