Developing management skills is considered a means of improving the competitiveness of businesses and the economy as a whole. Although human resource development literature has tended to focus on larger enterprises in order to develop an understanding of skills development, there is a growing awareness of the requirements of small businesses. This paper aims to shed light on the role of training in small business success and also analyse the different training areas that are considered important to business success. Additionally, this paper discusses the attitude of small business owners towards training. This paper begins by introducing some concepts about management training, small business performance, and the barriers to training, then describes the data collection method adopted and the methodology for data analysis. The paper concludes with a detailed discussion of the analyses and provides recommendations for small business owners.
