Abstract

The search for evidence of differences in the effectiveness of schools has become one of the central themes in educational research. In this article, George Madaus, Thomas Kellaghan, Ernest Rakow, and Denis King question the use of standardized achievement tests as measures for comparing the quality of different schools.
