Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between central life interest (CLI) and the level of job satisfaction using a convenience sample of restaurant managers. The Central Life Interest questionnaire developed by Dubin determines respondents' preference for carrying out preferred activities. Job satisfaction was measured using the Job Description Index (JDI). The CLI showed 65.3% of respondents to be flexible-focus and 25.3% as job-oriented. Unexpectedly, both groups expressed similar levels of moderate satisfaction with the six JDI categories, except for being ambivalent with promotion and for the non-job-oriented group- moderately dissatisfied. There were variations in satisfaction by age and years in the job.
