Abstract A modified method for the determination of lignin in high‐protein plant material has been developed. The main modification is the use of a single digestion with trypsin, rather than pepsin, this being preceded, instead of followed, by acid hydrolysis. The use of Gooch crucibles is recommended as alundum crucibles can be unreliable.
