Abstract

Abstract: The types and causes of employee turnover are investigated, and ways to reduce turnover are discussed. Turnover is either voluntary or involuntary, controllable or uncontrollable. A matrix for analyzing turnover is presented along with perceived reasons for employee turnover (divided into 3 categories). An analysis of the turnover rate in 17 hotels identifies the major causes of turnover and their associated frequencies and summarizes the trends noted. Findings indicate that with firm information and an indication of exactly which areas have the worst turnover problems, managers can devise strategies to reduce the rate of turnover. (kbc)
