Teaching effectiveness is receiving intense scrutiny as educational administrators and state legislatures recognize the social value offered by effective teachers at all levels of instruction. This valuable asset, however, cannot be managed or controlled without a means to measure it. The current study seeks to take a step back from the discussion and develop a definition of the domain of teaching effectiveness by employing a deconstructive approach and to suggest how it might be measured.
