Abstract

This paper analyses the interactions of a tutor inside the walls of a virtual classroom. It was observed that exchanges between teacher and learner, and even between the learners themselves are quite similar to other well known face to face situations. It also analyses to which extent the features of the environment are used to reposition and support communication. Results bring up several questions namely concerning the role of spatial metaphor, a concept that is often centrally present in these types of virtual environments.
