Development of academics and higher education futures

Abstract

The scoping project was originally intended to identify: (1) current approaches to the development of academics in Australia; (2) scenarios for the future of Australian higher education; and (3) academic development challenges and issues arising from the scenarios and from the present arrangements for the development of academics. There is a variety of approaches to academic development and many strategies employed in the development of academics as teachers. While much research and development work has been written about the academic development of teachers in Australia over the last 15 years, this national study was designed to undertake a comprehensive overview of current approaches to the academic development role and capture emerging issues and challenges.
