This paper examines the various classifications of green consumerism that have been compiled in the United Kingdom and elsewhere. By means of a series of longitudinal studies the breadth and depth of commitment of the green consumer is identified. The Northern Ireland consumer exhibits similar environmental concerns to other consumers in the United Kingdom. Based on these studies an overall classification of green consumerism in Northern Ireland is compiled.
