Abstract

been associated with organizational performance. Third, we review some studies on the culture-performance relationship and propose that the different findings are a function of different assumptions about what culture is, as well as different strength levels of that culture. Finally, we propose a model to explain the relationship between culture and performance. This model proposes that performance is a function of 1) how well the culture is developed (strength), 2) culture's ability to focus individual effort, enhance commitment, and support strategic vision, and 3) the level of strategic transformation needed.
