PARKER, RONALD K.; RIEFF, MARGERY L.; and SPERR, SHELBY J. Teaching Multiple Classification to Young Children. CHILD DEVELOPMENT, 1971, 42, 1779-1789. A multiple-classification training program developed by task analysis was presented to 4?-, 6-, and 71?-year-olds. After preliminary testing with 5 color x form matrices, Ss who could not solve multipleclassification tasks were randomly assigned to either the training or contact control group. Preand posttesting indicated a differential effect of training on the 3 age levels. The 6and 71?-year-olds benefited from the training program, but the 41?-year-olds showed little increase in multiple-classification ability. In general, however, training improved Ss' performance on the criterion performance tasks and on the 9 transfer matrices.
