New fluorescent probes, designed based on the molecular rotor motif, displayed good affinity for aggregated β-amyloid peptides. The physical and fluorescence properties of these probes can be fine tuned by modifying their chemical structures. These findings suggest that the general motif of molecular rotors can lead to the design of new diagnostic tools for amyloid imaging in Alzheimer's disease and related neurodegenerative conditions.
