A non-destructive optical method for determining the soluble solids content of fresh whole papayas ( Carica papaya L.) “Kapoho Solo” was investigated. The method, based upon near infrared spectrophotometric techniques, could predict the soluble solids content of papayas ( r 2 = 0.84, SEC = 1.1°Brix, SEP = 1.1°Brix).
