Written work has several important advantages over oral discussion in the development and assessment of students' critical-thinking skills. This article describes a set of short writing assignments that tap eight essential aspects of critical and creative thought. Examples illustrate how the assignments can be tied to topics in general psychology and human sexuality courses.
