Abstract

We report on bottom-gate top-contact organic field-effect transistors that use regioregular poly(3-hexylthiophene) (rr-P3HT) as a channel semiconductor and poly(vinyl alcohol) as a gate insulator. We determine that the field-effect mobility of the rr-P3HT is 0.08 <formula formulatype="inline" xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink"><tex Notation="TeX">$\hbox{cm}^{2} \cdot\hbox{V}^{-1}\cdot\hbox{s}^{-1}$</tex></formula> , the threshold voltage is <formula formulatype="inline" xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink"><tex Notation="TeX"> $-$</tex></formula> 1.1 V, and the on/off current ratio is <formula formulatype="inline" xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink"><tex Notation="TeX">$\hbox{10}^{3}$</tex></formula> , demonstrating the transistor operation in an inverter.
