Abstract

A survey of the career aspirations of the Master of Information Science (M.Inf.Sc.) degree students who registered for the programme in the 2000/2001 academic session at the Africa Regional Centre for Information Science (ARCIS), University of Ibadan, Nigeria. Data were gathered from the students by means of questionnaires while frequency counts and percentage were used to analyse the data. The findings revealed the sex of the respondents, their pre-entry educational background and work life, their motivations for opting for the M.Inf.Sc. programme, aspirations for the acquisition of Ph.D. degrees, and where they aspire to work on completion of the master’s programme. The paper concludes by making suggestions for improvement.
