Abstract

SUMMARY An important requirement for effective learning is a student's ability to develop conceptual models that facilitate knowledge transfer within any particular domain of study. Learning metaphors offer a useful way of helping to achieve this objective. In this context, the electronic book metaphor is one which has been found particularly useful. This paper outlines some approaches to the realization of electronic book metaphors using optical media such as video disc and compact disc read‐only‐memory.
