It seems that children continue to have difficulty in understanding algebra. Some of this difficulty seems, to be due to problems in understanding algebraic concepts and algebraic symbols; some to the fact that children often do not seem to “reason algebraically” and perhaps most of all to the fact that children often do not understand what algebra is all about and what the purpose might be in studying it.
