Seed Sequence Recognition

Seed Sequence Recognition is a molecular interaction mechanism in microRNA biology whereby a microRNA guides the RNA-induced silencing complex to target messenger RNAs through base-pairing complementarity centered on a conserved six- to eight-nucleotide region at the 5′ end of the microRNA, distinguishing it from other modes of post-transcriptional regulation by its specificity for this short, seed-mediated binding event.
