Performance Goal Setting is a process-level construct within goal-setting theory that refers to the establishment of objectives focused on demonstrating competence relative to others or achieving normative standards, distinguished from mastery goals by its emphasis on outperforming others or attaining performance-based outcomes rather than developing competence through learning and task mastery.
