Intestinal Enzyme Induction
Intestinal Enzyme Induction is a physiological process denoting the upregulation of enzyme expression in the intestinal epithelium, particularly cytochrome P450 enzymes and phase II conjugating enzymes, mediated by xenobiotic or dietary activators of nuclear receptors such as PXR and AhR, thereby enhancing the intestinal capacity for drug and xenobiotic metabolism.
