Abstract

This paper deals with the tool path design and error analysis for machining cavities with round cross sections using cylindrical electrodes based on the uniform wear method. Conical cavities and spherical cavities were machined successfully by applying tool path generation based on the compensation equation for 3D micro-EDM. In order to predict the dimensional errors caused in actual machining, the error equations of electrode wear ratio, machining area and electrode size have been derived from the compensation equation. Machined shapes of conical cavities and spherical cavities influenced by different errors were simulated.
