Abstract

Extract: As the research hypotheses of today's scientists become more complex, methods of developing more complex and sophisticated variables is mandated. Pattern analysis is one way to create such new variables. The choice of the methods of aggregation will in fact impact in the final solution and conclusions drawn from any set of data. Therefore, understanding the methods and advantages and disadvantages of these methods is prerequisite to making these choices. Through the more sophisticated analysis available with the newly developing field of pattern analysis, our knowledge should continue to grow and contribute to better understanding of the relationships of food, nutrition, and health.(author)
