Brief but Efficient: Acute HIV Infection and the Sexual Transmission of HIV

Abstract

Empirical biological data strongly support the hypothesis that sexual transmission by acutely infected individuals has a disproportionate effect on the spread of HIV-1 infection. Acute hyperinfectiousness may, in part, explain the current pandemic in heterosexual individuals.
