FTIR SPECTROSCOPIC STUDIES ON CLEOME GYNANDRA - COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF FUNCTIONAL GROUP BEFORE AND AFTER EXTRACTION

Abstract

FTIR spectra of Cleome gynandra leaf powder before and after extraction with
\nmethanol were recorded. The frequency range and intensities were obtained from absorption spectra.
\nCompression of the constituents present before and after extraction was made. The results have
\nshown that the biomolecules were rich in the sample before extraction as compared to after extraction.
\nThe result indicates that the sample before extraction was rich in certain constituents than after
\nextraction. This analysis showed the presence of hydroxyl compounds, carbonyl compounds, amines,
\nhalogens compounds in both samples. The analysis also revealed the presence of different types of
\nbiomolecules in both extracts. The sample prior to extraction contains aromatic compounds, halogen
\ncompounds, amides, whereas the sample after extraction showed the presence of functional groups
\nlike carboxyl acid, alkyl amine, alkyl halides.
