Abstract

LITTLE work has been done on the digestion of protein, fat and carbohydrate in the chicken because of the difficulty in the collection of urine and feces separately. Using the technique of Ariyoshi and Morimoto (1956), the digestion of protein, fat and starch was studied in normal and depancreatized chickens. The proteases, lipase and amylase were measured in the feces of these chickens to provide some information upon the amount of these enzymes in the intestinal tract during the digestive process. We wish to report some measurements on normal and depancreatized chickens with colostomies. Care of the chickens and their treatment. In this experiment, males which had been depancreatized when weighing about 400 gms. were maintained on the U. C.
