Abstract An investigation was carried out to study the effect of certain catalysts on the migration of the double bond especially without simultaneous hydrogenation in esters of unsaturated fatty acids. The position of the double bond, before and after isomerisation, was determined by oxidative degradation, followed by chromatographic analysis of the oxidation products. It was observed, that under the influence of a nickel isomerisation catalyst, migration of the double bond to many positions in the chain occurred.
