Abstract

The integration of group incentive payment with a program of joint worker-management-union effort to improve methods and reduce costs is the most recent development in union-management cooperation. Most of the reported cases, however, describe instances of success, while the plans which failed remain unsung, unreported, and unanalyzed. This article describes one such failure, from which the authors attempt to throw further light on the factors making for success and to draw inferences with respect to the limits of application of group incentive-cost reduction programs.
