Abstract

SYNOPSIS An assembly of equipment for the study of living human cells is described. It is designed to keep the cells under study living, sterile, adequately nourished, at their optimum temperature and observable throughout an experiment, and to subject them to as little light as possible. The apparatus consists of a phase‐contrast microscope, a cine camera, a micro‐flash unit, a time‐lapse unit, and a warmed perfusion chamber. The microscope, camera, and flash unit are standard, commercially available items. The time‐lapse unit, its ancillary equipment, and the perfusion chamber are of the author's design.
