In this paper we develop a model of gene expression for the purpose of studying the resource use of synthetic gene circuits when expressed in chassis cells. This model focuses on the translational aspect of gene expression which accounts for the majority of resource usage. The model allows for simulations of circuit-chassis interactions that can be used to inform improved designs of synthetic gene circuits.
