Abstract The organisation of a total diet sampling scheme is described, including the basis on which it was designed and the manner in which it was carried out. Twenty colleges or institutions, widely distributed in England and Wales, co‐operated in preparing the samples for analysis for pesticide residues. the samples were separated into 7 food groups for analytical purposes.
