Abstract

This report represents a further attempt by a group of psychologists at the University of Illinois to find and measure variables in parent behavior which may be critical in the development of the child. In overview, the interview rating procedures developed by Sears, Maccoby, and Levin (13) have been used with both mothers and fathers, and ratings have been obtained on the children from mothers, fathers, and teachers. Factor analysis has been used to reduce rated variables to a smaller number of reliable, psychologically meaningful factor scores. Finally, correlations among factor scores have been determined to assess the covariance of parent and child behavior.
