Total quality management is a systematic approach that seeks to meet competitive and technological challenges by emphasizing top‑management commitment and customer satisfaction, and it is applied differently in manufacturing and service sectors. This study investigates the benefits, shortcomings, and differences in understanding seven TQM success factors between manufacturing and service industries in North India. Success factors were identified through a critical literature review and measured via a survey of 30 manufacturing and 30 service firms in North India. Results show that the success factors rank differently across the two sectors, but both recognize their importance, and the null hypotheses were rejected.
