Why is public science education important?

The future of science depends on a public that can distinguish science from non-science so that individuals can make reasonable policy and personal judgements and establish informed priorities in their own self-interest. Educators, scientists, policymakers, journalists and others share responsibility for engaging the public in science issues that impact society.
