School choice is an academic concept and prominent area of educational policy research concerned with mechanisms, such as vouchers, charter schools, and open enrollment policies, that permit parents to select K-12 schools for their children outside of traditional residential attendance zones. This research investigates the design, implementation, and effects of these policies on student achievement, school performance, equity, and the structure of educational systems.
