Human-centered Natural Language Processing

Human-centered natural language processing is a research field and methodological paradigm dedicated to the design, development, and evaluation of Natural Language Processing (NLP) systems with a central focus on human users, their needs, cognitive processes, and societal context. It investigates the complex interplay between human language use and computational models, emphasizing the creation of NLP technologies that are usable, understandable, equitable, and beneficial for human interaction. This approach integrates principles from human-computer interaction, cognitive science, linguistics, and ethics, prioritizing aspects such as interpretability, fairness, privacy, and social responsibility alongside technical performance, thereby aiming to develop more trustworthy and effective language technologies aligned with human values.
