Electron Avalanche

Electron Avalanche is an ionization process in which a free electron, under the influence of a strong electric field within a proportional counter, gains sufficient energy to ionize multiple gas atoms through successive collisions, thereby producing a rapidly multiplying cascade of secondary electrons that distinguishes it from single-ionization events.
