Continuously Variable Transmissions

Continuously Variable Transmissions is an automatic powertrain transmission system in which the effective gear ratio can be varied continuously over a finite range—typically via mechanical variators such as belt–pulley, toroidal, or chain-driven units—rather than in discrete steps, thereby allowing the prime mover to operate near its optimal speed largely independently of vehicle speed.
