5-Alpha Reduction

5-Alpha Reduction is a metabolic reaction in which the enzyme 5α-reductase catalyzes the stereospecific reduction of the carbon-carbon double bond at the 4–5 position of steroid molecules, particularly converting testosterone to dihydrotestosterone, thereby increasing androgenic activity in target tissues.
