Critical Pedagogy and Media Production: The Theory and Practice of the Video Documentary.

Abstract

This article is connected to a larger project involving the construction of bridges be tween two literatures: the literature of contemporary media studies and the liter ature of critical pedagogy. This larger project arises out of a personal need to resolve pressing feelings of schizophrenia, feelings shared with many friends and colleagues who also have backgrounds as professional media producers, working in side the various media industries prior to our entries into the academy. Wanting to teach, and finding other pleasures in the academic environment, we entered gradu ate programs and were introduced to the theoretical foundations of an array of new perspectives.
