Abstract

This book provides a road map to a critical area of industrial psychology -- designing and using personnel assessment tools for making career decisions, evaluating promotions, and shaping training programs. Easy-to-follow instructions are illustrated with case examples, samples of tasks, rating scales, and scenarios drawn from research. Organized around the sequence of steps involved in developing and using assessment tools, the chapters explain how to conduct job analyses, develop test plans, choose predictor measures, create criterion instruments, and evaluate the validity of a measurement program. A comprehensive example drawn from a large-scale project at the American Institutes for Research runs throughout the book as a reference point to integrate all the techniques.
