Alt raus, Neu rein: Heck-Kupplungen machten die neuartigen 1,8-Naphthyridin-C-Nucleoside Na-NO und Na-ON (siehe Formeln) zugänglich. Oligodesoxynucleotide, die die Na-NO- und Na-ON-Nucleoside enthielten, bildeten mithilfe der Basenpaarungsmotive Na-NO:Im-ON und Na-ON:Im-NO äußerst stabile Duplexe.
