Abstract : Test data for gold rods impacting unconfined silicon carbide targets are reported. This work focuses on the dwell phenomenon exhibited by silicon carbide for targets at obliquity. Experiments are presented for obliquities of 30 deg, 45 deg and 60 deg, with and without cover plates. Results are compared to normal impact.
