Impact Mechanics

Impact Mechanics is a subfield of applied mechanics that analyzes the transient, often highly nonlinear dynamic response of materials and structures subjected to short-duration, high-rate contact loading such as collisions, including the associated processes of momentum transfer, stress-wave propagation, plastic deformation, and failure relevant to crashworthiness and impact-resistant design.
