Abstract

The primary and secondary metabolites of different parts of Aegle marmelos were isolated, the cyclic polyols were characterized. The antioxidant activities in vitro and in a cell-based human liver AML-12 cells and the anti-inflammatory activities of isolated quinic acid and ethanol extract of leaves were determined. One hundred and thirty two primary and secondary metabolites were identified in the extracts by HPLC, GC-MS, and NMR. Results demonstrated A. marmelos as an antioxidant and a sustainable by-product with therapeutic potential for treating inflammation.
